Summer Mission (Corvallis)
In the mission we strived for crazy holiness, but to the normal American, we may have just seemed crazy. In America, the normal missionaries that visit homes are from just about every denomination besides Catholicism. This time, however, it was the Catholics who went out and brought the Good News to all of Lebanon for four consecutive days. It was definitely a sight to see; twenty college students, led by four missionaries of the Saint John Society and two women from the Society of Mary, working from 6 AM to 11PM every day imitating Christ in His public ministry. We had a three night retreat about the Holy Spirit, a two day children’s mission, a daily procession through the streets praying the rosary together, and lastly, home visits. Every day, nine teams streamed out of St. Edward’s parking lot and took to the streets of Lebanon, visiting houses for three to four hours each day. It was something very new to Catholics in America, but we found it not only powerful for the people we visited, but also powerful for ourselves as we configured ourselves with the original disciples, going out, spreading the Good News, “shaking the dust from our feet” sometimes, but always striving for more and bringing the light of Christ to all that we could.
